Christian Liberty duo competes at state

Stephanie Chaires and Vivian Barclay officially raised the bar Thursday for the Christian Liberty girls track program.

Chaires and Barclay became their school’s first competitors in the Class 1A state preliminaries at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium in Charleston. Neither of them advanced in their events to Saturday’s finals.

Chaires, a senior, ran 5:43.19 in the 1600 meters. Barclay, a sophomore, ran the 400 in 1:03.67.
