Ryan Hamrick had 3 hits and scored 3 runs, and four pitchers combined on a 2-hitter, as Grayslake Central’s baseball team shut out Marian Central Catholic 7-0 Wednesday.

Kristian Meehan added a triple, single and 3 RBI for the Rams, and Nick Hosford added 2 singles and 2 runs scored.

Mike Wiggins, Brian Karol, Christian Edwards and Will Weinert threw for Grayslake Central (24-8), striking out four. Wiggins picked up his second win.

“We came with much better energy today, and it showed,” Rams coach Troy Whalen said. “All four pitchers pounded the strike zone, and we made the plays behind them.”

Libertyville 11, Round Lake 1: P.J. Neumann was 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI for the host Wildcats in the North Suburban crossover.

Alex Gough also went 2-for-2 and knocked in a run for Libertyville (20-10).

Kevin McQuillen pitched all 5 innings in earning the win.

Antioch 8, Lake Forest 2: Dan Arden (6-3) went the distance on the mound, scattering 3 hits while striking out five and walking three in earning the win.

Antioch (19-11) got 2 hits apiece from Joe Gregory (2 RBI), Matt DeJong and Mitch Everett (2 RBI).

Grayslake North 5, Woodstock North 3: The Knights won their Fox Valley Conference finale, as Sam Stanfel and Austyn Ruback (RBI, 3 runs scored) each went 2-for-3 in the Fox Division game.

Nick Carmody was 1-for-3 with 3 stolen bases, and Travis McKenzie had an RBI groundout. Winning pitcher Ryan Gross pitched 613 innings, allowing 3 hits and no earned runs while striking out seven.

Grayslake North (16-15) finished 10-9 in the FVC.

Lakes 6, Warren 5: The Eagles used 4 hits in the top of the first inning to score 4 runs en route to the North Suburban Conference crossover win.

Lakes (18-16) added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Warren had the tying run on second with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but junior Drake Larriuz got a groundout to second baseman Nick Traska to seal the win and earn his first save of the year.

Lakes also got solid pitching from junior Adam Vassios, who came on in relief of starter Eric Kuhlmann. Kuhlmann earned the win to up his record to 3-0.

The Eagles got doubles from Traska, Dan Jackson, Chris Hoffman and Joe Sisk.

Grant 14, Zion-Benton 1: Brent Spohr went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, as the Bulldogs needed only five innings in the North Suburban crossover to win their 19th game.

Jordan Villarreal had a double and an RBI for Grant (19-11), while Jared Helmich singled and knocked in a pair. Tino Torres added a base hit and an RBI, and Mike Lutz (2-2) pitched shutout innings of 1-hit ball for the win.

The Bulldogs scored 11 runs in the second inning.

Grant 14, Round Lake 0: On Tuesday, Jake Ring’s grand slam highlighted a 14-run third inning for the Bulldogs in their North Suburban Prairie finale.

Jared Helmich (RBI) and Jordan Villarreal (2 RBI) tripled for Grant, which finished 7-5 (third place) in the division.

Jacob Trumpis improved to 6-2, allowing 1 hit over 5 innings.

Stevenson 12, Wauconda 2: Max Golembo went 2-for-3 and Steve Galanopoulos was 2-for-2 for the host Patriots, whose North Suburban crossover win gave them 19 for the season.

Zach Novoselsky doubled for Stevenson (19-12), and Scott Irving allowed 2 runs over 5 innings for the win.

Wauconda got a double from John Kamakis.

Lake Zurich 2, North Chicago 0: When the Warhawks failed to show up at Lake Zurich, the Bears were awarded the forfeit win.

Lake Zurich (21-10) visits Rolling Meadows on Friday in a makeup game.

Softball

Libertyville has been playing better softball the last couple of weeks, and first-year coach Elissa Wisniewski’s Wildcats picked up a quality win Wednesday.

Calley Kaluzny homered, doubled and singled, driving in 4 runs, as Libertyville defeated host Lakes 11-1 in six innings in a North Suburban Conference crossover.

Besides Kaluzny, leadoff hitter Taylor Oberman and Nicole Kruckman also had 3 hits for the Wildcats. Oberman tripled and scored 4 runs, while Kruckman doubled and knocked in three. Andi Katz added a pair of hits, and Emilie Teitz pitched all 6 innings in capturing the win.

Jamie Dykstra tripled and singled for Lakes (21-12). Megan Milewski (triple) and Sara Braden (double) also had extra-base hits for the Eagles.

Grant 10, Stevenson 6: Molly Smith went 4-for-4 with a home run and double, as the host Bulldogs won the North Suburban crossover.

Caitlyn Moran and Bree Lundman also doubled for Grant (23-11). Winning pitcher Rachel DePouw did not allow an earned run in her complete-game effort. She struck out eight and walked two.

Kat Trotter doubled and pitched well in relief for Stevenson, which trailed 10-0 after four innings.

Lake Zurich 3, Antioch 0: Shannon McPeek pitched a 4-hit shutout and aided her own cause with a pair of singles, and Carlee Parsons hit a solo homer for the visiting Bears in the North Suburban crossover.

Maria Schroeder was 1-for-3 for Lake Zurich (25-9).

Antioch fell to 21-14.

Mundelein 9, Wauconda 1: Hailey Morelli (2-for-4), Alex Hemmer and Erin Kennelly (2-for-4) all doubled for the visiting Mustangs in the North Suburban crossover.

Emily East went the distance in the circle in picking up the win.

Boys volleyball

Thomas Robinson slammed 7 kills on 13-of-16 hitting, and Martin Niemczewski added 6 kills on 12 of 15, as Vernon Hills’ boys volleyball team clinched its fifth consecutive North Suburban Conference championship with a 25-18, 25-18 win over host Lake Forest on Wednesday night.

“Thomas Robinson led the team with really smart and strong hitting all night,” Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry said. “And our service was strong, keeping (Lake Forest) out of system for a good part of the night.”

The win was also the 30th for the Cougars, who also got 4 aces from Max Spiglanin and three from Ryan Opitz. Opitz also dished out 20 assists on 45-of-46 setting.

Vernon Hills (30-4) finished 9-1 in the NSC. Stevenson finished with the same conference record, but Vernon Hills beat the Patriots in three sets last Tuesday.

For Vernon Hills, it’s the most consecutive NSC volleyball titles ever. Lake Forest won four straight titles from 1994-1997. The Cougars finished 8-1 in 2008, 10-0 in both 2009 and 2010, and 9-1 in each of the last two seasons.

Stevenson d. Zion-Benton: Brad Tiller and Jason Fleischman pounded 8 and 6 kills, respectively, for the Patriots in their 25-20, 25-21 win.

Stevenson (29-4, 9-1 North Suburban) also received 4 kills from Collin Ryan, 21 assists from Jonah May and 7 digs from Robbie Redman.

Mundelein d. Lake Zurich: The Mustangs won their North Suburban finale, as Parker Tortorello slammed 9 kills in a 25-23, 25-21 win.

Corey Flores added 6 kills for Mundelein (16-18, 5-5), and Victor Magana lofted 24 assists.
