Grayslake North, Central and Lakes advance

Freshman Sam Villwock scored the tiebreaking goal in the second half, as Grayslake North’s girls soccer team went on to defeat Grant 3-1 in a Class 2A regional semifinal at Grayslake North on Wednesday.

Sophomore Kelly Meyer added an insurance goal for the Knights, who improved to 14-6-1 and earned a berth in Saturday’s 11 a.m. regional final against Lake Forest. Meyer also scored Grayslake North’s first goal. Katie Lahera assisted on the first two tallies, and Andrea Lamb earned the assist on the final goal.

Knights keeper Brooke Sauer made 4 saves.

“The second half was much better from all over the field for us,” Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “We had purpose in just about every touch, and it showed as we began to make Grant chase us a bit.”

Grayslake Central 8, Senn 0: At Lakes, Sarah Gauger and Skyler Jessop each had 2 goals and 2 assists, as the Rams built a 5-0 edge by halftime en route to the Class 2A regional semifinal win.

Alex Wilson also scored twice for Grayslake Central (12-7), which will meet host Lakes at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship. Mikala Wollmuth and Emily Werfel tallied the Rams’ other goals, while Carson Sparkman added a pair of assists. Savannah Mudd also had an assist.

Rachel Effe and Kajal Chokshi shared the shutout in goal.

Lakes 5, Resurrection 1: Sarina Umlauf scored a hat trick for the Eagles in their Class 2A regional semifinal on their home field.

Jenna Baker and Katie Mason converted penalty kicks for Lakes (13-9-1), which will host Grayslake Central in the regional final at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Eagles got assists from Myra Schmitt, Mikaela Brown and Leah Baker.

Freshman keeper Kara Jones made 6 saves for Lakes, which led 2-0 at halftime.

Stevenson 1, Zion-Benton 0: At Stevenson on Tuesday night, Katie Krejsa scored the game’s only goal, as the Patriots won their Class 3A state tournament opener.

Stevenson will play Prospect at 6:30 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.
