Cougars top Timber Rattlers 5-4

Lane Adams hit a home run to highlight a 3-run fifth inning Sunday as the Kane County Cougars earned a 5-4 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.

Justin Trapp started the fifth against Drew Gagnon with a double and scored on a hit by Jorge Bonifacio to break a 2-2 tie.

Adams belted his second homer of the season, scoring Bonifacio ahead of him as the Cougars (19-18) took a 3-run lead.

Edwin Carl (3-2) started for the Cougars and worked 6 innings, scattering 7 hits with 3 strikeouts.

Jonathan Dooley replaced Carl and allowed a run in the seventh as Chadwin Stang doubled home John Dishon.

In the eighth, Jason Rogers doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Greg Hopkins to pull the Timber Rattlers within a run.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the eighth, Nick Graffeo entered and struck out Rafael Neda.

Graffeo worked around a leadoff double by Dishon in the ninth to earn his eighth save.
