North Central great Special Olympics host

On Sunday, April 22, athletes from eight teams representing schools and special recreation associations gathered at North Central College for the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association Track & Field Meet. This year marks the 32nd meet held at North Central College. WDSRA is grateful for the generous opportunity to hold its meet at such a world-class facility.

Allowing new athletes to experience competition before the Special Olympics Area 2 Track & Field Meet, more experienced athletes also benefit from the competition. And community members can see our athletes’ hard work. Not only does North Central College open its stadium to WDSRA, it also hosts the Area 2 Special Olympics Spring Games, including a track and field meet the following weekend. North Central College’s generosity extends beyond being a true friend to WDSRA.

Nearly 150 athletes ran on the North Central College track, and competed in field events such as the long jump and softball throw this year. Special Olympics competition provides an opportunity for younger and older athletes with a wide range of disabilities to experience the thrill of competition, the joy of discovering that they can run faster than they thought, throw farther, jump higher, win a ribbon and enjoy being part of the team. WDSRA wants to thank North Central College for being part of its team. This partnership enables us to impact lives together.
