Lee Nguyen scores twice to lead Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Lee Nguyen scored twice, Saer Sene and Shalrie Joseph added goals and the New England Revolution beat the beat Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1 on Saturday night.

After Eric Hassli opened the scoring for the Whitecaps (5-3-2) in the fifth minute, Nguyen tied it in the sixth minute, Sene scored in the 24th and Joseph in the 33rd for New England (4-6-0).

Nguyen scored his second goal of the game in the 72nd minute, looping a shot from the left side atop the penalty box area following Chris Tierney’s throw-in.

New England won for the second time over the past six games, matching its goal output over that span. The Revolution also ended the Whitecaps’ winning streak at three.

Hassli finished off a nice drop pass from Sebastien LeToux for the first goal.

Right off the ensuing faceoff, Nguyen scored the tying goal, his first of the season on his 18th shot.

Sene scored his team-best fourth goal of the season, a shot off the left wing to the far low right corner of the Vancouver net past goalkeeper Joe Cannon with Nguyen assisting.

Joseph added his first goal of the season, snapping a 15-game drought dating to last season, banging a right-footed shot to the lower left corner after a cross from Sene.
