Police raid meth lab in Waukegan
Lake County authorities said Friday they seized 60 grams of crystal methamphetamine, related manufacturing materials and cash from a home in Waukegan this week.
The drugs, with a street value of $6,000, were found Thursday afternoon upon search of a house on the 4200 block of Continental Drive, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Mark Curran said it may be one of the largest recent meth seizures in Lake County.
Authorities said they also found $2,240 and scales and packaging material in the house.
The seizure was the result of a two-week investigation by the sheriff’s special investigations unit that began with a traffic stop, authorities said.
Naphtali Gube, 49, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was out on bond on similar charges in Cook County.
On Thursday, the Illinois State Police Meth Response Team conducted a cleanup of the house.
“Law enforcement intervention turned a potentially highly dangerous situation into an orderly arrest and took toxic chemicals from a home in the middle of a residential area,” Curran said in a statement.
