NY Yankees honor Ind. mom who lost legs in tornado

NEW YORK — A southern Indiana woman who lost parts of both legs while protecting her two children from a tornado has been recognized during a pre-game ceremony at New York’s Yankee Stadium.

Stephanie Decker, husband Joe and her children were on the field for Thursday evening’s ceremony. The Yankees showed a five-minute video about how Decker shielded her children from debris as they huddled in the basement of their Henryville home during the March 2 storm.

Nine-year-old Dominic and 6-year-old Reese joined the Yankees’ first base coach in bringing the lineup card out to the umpires.

The Courier-Journal reports the family met Yankee stars Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez and that Decker wrote on her Facebook page that it was one of the best days of her life.
