NIU names dean of College of Health

DEKALB — Northern Illinois University’s board of trustees has named Derryl Block dean of the College of Health and Human Services.

The board acted Thursday.

Block has been chairwoman since 2009 of the Professional Program in Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She is also director of an online program for registered nurses to advance to a bachelor of science in nursing degree.

She joined Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2001 and from 2009 to 2011 was also interim dean of the College of Professional and Graduate Studies.

Northern Illinois officials say they expect Block will broaden the college’s online course offerings while forging partnerships with professionals in the local community.
