Metra train evacuated because of ‘suspicious’ package

A Metra train in Harvard was evacuated Friday night when a “suspicious” package was found aboard one of the cars, officials said.

Passengers were evacuated, and the train was moved from the station before it was scheduled to depart at 8:35 p.m. A bomb squad from St. Charles arrived to the station about 10 p.m., according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

Harvard police said investigators remained on scene, but further information was not available.

Metra was running an inbound train south of the Harvard station to pick up passengers headed to Chicago, while an outbound train ws going “as far north as we can,” Reile said.
