6 charged in string of Hanover Park car burglaries
Six individuals - including three juveniles - were arrested this week in connection with a string of car burglaries on a residential street in Hanover Park.
Police said Friday that eight unlocked vehicles had been burglarized early Thursday on the 6700 block of Hickory Street.
An officer patrolling the area at 3:10 a.m. saw two males carrying a "kicker box" subwoofer and a third male carrying an amplifier, before he reported seeing all three drop what they were carrying and flee south into a nearby apartment complex.
The suspects were later identified as Jose Hernandez, 18, of the 2300 block of Glendale Terrace, and two juveniles.
Later, officers discovered three additional suspects who they believe were involved in the vehicle burglaries in a laundry room of another apartment complex. They were identified as Edgar Hernandez, 19, of the 2400 block of Leslie Lane, Alejandro Gonzalez, 18, of the 5100 block of South Christiana Avenue in Chicago, and a juvenile.
Jose Hernandez was charged with one count of burglary.
Edgar Hernandez and Gonzalez were charged with six counts of theft and Hernandez also was held for being wanted on four warrants.
Two of the juveniles were charged in juvenile petitions with eight counts of burglary, and another juvenile was charged with six counts of theft.
Police Chief David Webb said in a news release that the suspected burglaries were a crime of opportunity since only unlocked vehicles were targeted.
