Valles leads Maine West to CSL North co-championship
Maine West ace Ariel Valles shut out visiting Deerfield 3-0 on Friday as the Warriors finished as co-champions in the Central Suburban North in coach Amy Gonzales’ first season.
The Warriors (21-9) and Glenbrook North each finished 9-1 in the conference and they split games during the season.
Valles (16-6) gave up only 4 hits, striking out seven. Teammate Katie Fitzgerald went 3-for-3 with a triple and 3 RBI while Angela Cruz was 1-for-2 with a double and a 1 run.
Fitzgerald made some great defensive plays, including a diving center in right center while infielder Cruz also contributed a great defensive play by diving for a ball up the middle and throwing out the runner.
“It was another great pitching performance by Ariel and great defense backing her up” Gonzales said.
Leyden 1, Willowbrook 0: Senior Morgan Maize belted a home run in the top of the sixth inning to give visiting Leyden (23-6) the victory.
IMSA sweeps CLA: Illinois Math & Science Academy won a doubleheader 2-0 and 10-0 over Christian Liberty (8-9) on Wednesday.
