A boil order has been issued for residents in Fox River Grove after three water mains broke in town Wednesday night. Officials said the boil order is just a precaution after water pressure dropped through the water system due to the breaks Wednesday. They said the boil order remains in effect until 10 a.m. Friday morning. The water main breaks are being repaired.
<h3 class="briefHead">Ex-teacher who tampered with Antioch grades facing new charges</h3>
A former Antioch High School teacher who was the wife of the school’s football coach who pleaded guilty to changing students’ grades last year, has been charged with forging documents on her new job, according to police. Sara Glashagel changed 64 students grades last year, 41 were on the football team, and is now facing 24 counts of forgery. Police said she falsified contracts to collect commission pay. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">Protesters say Harper wrestler who was shot is wrongly accused</h3>
About 70 protesters joined the mother of a Harper College wrestler outside the DuPage County courthouse as her son remains behind bars awaiting his trial on charges of home invasion, burglary and aggravated battery. Prosecutors say Kevin Ramirez, who has been awaiting trial since last fall, walked into the wrong home while trying to go to a party at 7 a.m. and ended up fighting with three men inside before he was shot. Supporters of Ramirez say prosecutors were overzealous in the charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 30 years. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">DuPage judge suspended 60 days two years after hit-and-run</h3>
Nearly two years after DuPage County Judge Kenneth Popejoy struck a vehicle and fled nearly three miles to his home with a tire nearly falling off the rim, he has been suspended 60 days without pay. The suspension will begin Monday. Police said Popejoy almost struck a 13-year-old girl who was jogging and she had to jump away from his speeding damaged vehicle to avoid being struck. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">Three area teachers receive prestigious Golden Apple Awards</h3>
Naperville Highlands Elementary School second-grade teacher Kathy Burns and Central Road Elementary School in Rolling Meadows second-grade teacher Robert Taylor were both surprised by announcements that they won Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching yesterday. Only 10 prekindergarten through third-grade teachers in the Chicago area received the honor from a pool of almost 600 nominees. See Burns’ full story and Taylor’s full story. <h3 class="briefHead">400 attend Schaumburg meeting on teachers’ pensions</h3>
Current and retired teachers fearful of threats to their retirement benefits filled Schaumburg High School last night as the Teachers Retirement System’s executive director tried to calm worries. About 400 people were at the discussion, which focused on Gov. Pat Quinn’s proposal for reforming state pension plans. The director said Quinn’s proposal is “just an outline” and there has been no legislature written. Full story.
<h3 class="briefHead">Parents gather at Stevenson H.S. for drinking, drugs discussion</h3>
The message at a discussion between concerned parents, and law enforcement and medical experts regarding underage drinking and drug use last night at Stevenson High School was talk to your kids at home. “Silence isn’t golden. Silence is permission,” said Lake County Judge Daniel Shanes. Speakers focused on marijuana, heroin, Ecstasy and prescription narcotics, all of which are prevalent in Lake County. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Traffic</h3>
A few small accidents are slowing things down on the area roadways. A crash has caused delays at I-88 and Winfield Road and at Route 83 at I-290. There is only about one month remaining on bridge construction on Red Gate Road between Illinois routes 31 and 25 in St. Charles. The bridge spanning the Fox River will take place through June. Jake Peavy coasted for six innings before giving up a run in the seventh, leading the White Sox to an easy 8-1 win over the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night. While the Cubs and lefty Paul Maholm shut out the Braves Wednesday afternoon, taking their series by a final score of 1-0. Left-hander Paul Maholm won his fourth consecutive start to improve to 4-2 and lower his ERA from 5.13 to 4.05 after working 7 innings of 3-hit ball. Check out the Sox story and Cubs story.
