New ComEd residential rates announced

Municipal electric aggregation to save residents even more

LOMBARD, Illinois—Residential rates have just been announced by Commonwealth Edison for the 12 months starting June 1, 2012. Surprisingly, they are increasing from the current rate of 7.73¢/kWh to the annual rate 8.5¢/kWh. This is a 10% increase.

Village of Lombard residents recently approved the electrical aggregation referendum, giving the Village permission to seek lower electricity supply rates for its residents and small businesses through an opt-out electricity aggregation program. The Village selected First Energy Solutions for 100% renewable energy for 24 months at a rate of 4.64¢/kWh. The Village's contracted rate is 45% lower than ComEd's new rate of 8.5¢/kWh.

As part of the changeover to a new supplier, the selected supplier First Energy Solutions, will send notices to all residents on Village letterhead. This notice will include instructions on how residents can opt-out of the program if they do not wish to participate.

For a resident to be included in the aggregation program, they will not need to do anything and will automatically be switched over to the new supplier. This process will take approximately 60 days from the time of the bid, so most residents should be switched over to the new supplier in mid-July.

More information will be made available to the public throughout the process. Further information on electrical aggregation can be found on the Village's website at www.villageoflombard.org or by calling the Village at (630) 620-5910.
