Three cheers for electric aggregation
The village officials and staff that successfully undertook the task of municipal electricity aggregation should be commended one and all. For the benefit of over a quarter million residents across seven communities, they reduced our electricity supply rate by some 40 percent. Also, and I personally consider this more valuable, they are supporting a 100 percent renewable energy program.
This is a win for everyone in that we give up nothing in service and convenience, cumulative savings will be in the millions; much of which will probably be reinvested into the community; clean energy demand increases as will development of that industry; and it delivers a strong statement that we can and must move away from the negative and costly environmental and health effects associated with fossil fuels. This will be held up as a model program throughout the state, and those communities that either didn’t have the referendum or voted it down will see what a huge mistake that was.
