Snappers shut down Cougars 5-1
BELOIT, Wis. — Right-hander Matt Summers stifled the Kane County Cougars’ bats through eight innings Monday night as he led the Beloit Snappers to a 5-1 victory at Pohlman Field.
Summers (2-2) faced the minimum 15 batters through the first five innings despite allowing a first-inning single to Justin Trapp and a fifth-inning hit to Lane Adams.
Trapp was caught stealing to end the first, and Adams was doubled off on a liner hit by Michael Antonio in the fifth.
Miguel Sano gave Summers the lead with his ninth home run, to straightaway center off Scott Alexander (2-2) in first. Alexander coughed up 5 runs (3 earned) in 5 innings.
Sano singled and scored on a Drew Leachman single in the fourth. A Rory Rhodes sacrifice fly brought home Eddie Rosario to put Beloit in front by 3.
Errors by Trapp and Jin-Ho Shin helped the Snappers tack on 2 more runs in the fifth.
Murray Watts blasted his sixth home run in the sixth for the only Kane County run. The Cougars managed just 4 hits.
