Boeger Place should move forward now

News flash: Persons struggling with mental illness can recover! It is unimaginable, but undeniably true, that there are those in our community and neighborhoods, particularly those in the village leadership of Arlington Heights, who reject and oppose a presently available opportunity that provides for the very basic foundation of such recovery — permanent, supportive, affordable housing, such as that proposed on Boeger Drive.

Such housing can move low income, homeless and indigent individuals, who are struggling to recover and otherwise without resources, from our streets and parks by providing the very basic, human and humane need for shelter. Boeger Drive housing will also provide staffed, supportive services that include case management, clinical social work and other therapies that promote recovery and re-engage individuals to our community in a welcome and productive capacity.

The need for this type of housing is abundant. My hope is that the availability of permanent, supportive, affordable housing is met by all communities everywhere. The time and opportunity for Arlington Heights to is here and now and should not be delayed a moment longer.
