30 train cars derail near Toluca

TOLUCA — Authorities in north-central Illinois are trying to determine what caused a freight train to derail, damaging about 30 rail cars.

The cars went off the tracks Sunday just east of Toluca near the Marshall County-LaSalle County line.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department says no injuries were reported.

Strong winds were reported in the area on Sunday, but officials say it isn’t clear what caused the derailment.
