Antioch’s Katie Keefe gave new meaning to the term “game-winning hit.”
After Keefe’s line drive in the bottom of the first inning hit Sycamore’s pitcher and injured her, Antioch’s opponent decided to forfeit the game, Sequoits coach Anthony Rocco said.
Antioch was credited with a 7-0 win in the second game of the nonconference game Saturday. Sycamore won the opener 6-0, as the Sequoits had only 2 hits, including a double by Keefe.
The split left Antioch with a 17-12 record.
Warren 2, Palatine 0: Warren scored both of its runs in the third inning with Sam Belletini coming up with the winning hit.
The Blue Devils earned their sixth win in a row and moved to 25-4-1 overall.
Megan Sowa added 2 hits (a double and a triple) for Warren while winning pitcher Jana Wagner rolled up 6 strikeouts and allowed no walks.
Libertyville sweeps Prospect: Margaret Haws rolled up 5 hits, including a home run, over the course of Libertyville’s doubleheader sweep of Prospect. The Wildcats won 8-3 and 11-0.
In the first game, Haws went 2-for-4 while winning pitcher Haley Alban also went 2-for-4. Tayler Oberman went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a home run and Nicole Kruckman added 2 more hits for the Wildcats.
In the second game, Haws went 3-for-3, including the home run.
