Carpentersville man tells police to arrest him, not girlfriend
Bradley A. Pace, 22, of Carpentersville, has been arrested on allegations he “shoulder butted” a police officer in the chest so officers wouldn’t arrest his girlfriend on domestic battery charges, police said.
At 4:07 a.m. Friday, police were called to a home on the 100 block of Ball Street on a report of domestic battery — it was Pace who phone police.
Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said Pace and girlfriend, Emily Anderson, 23, got into a fight over the 11 cats living in their home.
Police said Anderson attacked Pace, leaving a bite mark on his hand and scratches on his neck.
According to police:
Officers set about arresting Anderson when Pace, who smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words, told them to let her go. When they explained that she was under arrest, he got upset, told them to release her and said they should take him instead.
“That’s chivalry,” quipped Bosshart.
At that point, police tried to calm Pace down and he shoulder butted an officer in the chest, then said, “Now take me to jail.”
“Carpentersville police are friendly and obliging, so they arrested him and took him to jail,” Bosshart said.
But as they began to take him away, Pace screamed, threatened to call his attorney and resisted efforts to get into the squad car, which required police to subdue him by using a Taser, but only once, Bosshart said.
Pace was charged with felony aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting a police officer, which is a misdemeanor. Anderson, meanwhile, was charged with two counts of domestic battery, both punishable by up to a year in prison, if she’s found guilty of one of the charges.
Pace was released after posting $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 14 on the felony charge. If found guilty of the felony, he could spend between three and seven years in prison. Anderson’s court date is also May 14.
