Barrington magazine publisher to speak at awards dinner
The Barrington Area Development Council, the nonprofit civic organization supporting programs and initiatives in Barrington, recently announced that Lisa Stamos, founding publisher of Quintessential Barrington magazine, will deliver the keynote address at the BADC annual Dinner and Citizen of the Year Award Wednesday, May 9, at the Makray Memorial Golf Club, Northwest Highway, Barrington.
Stamos is the founder of Quintessential Media Group, which publishes Quintessential Barrington, Quintessential New Trier and Quintessential America.
Stamos will speak about community partnering in remarks titled “The Art of Collaboration: Finding Your Field of Dreams.”
Stamos launched the Quintessential Barrington magazine in 2005, with a goal of providing readers with stories that matter: stories about neighbors, friends and organizations that have an impact on our way of life in the Barrington area. A hallmark of the publication has been its in-depth coverage of local not-for-profit initiatives.
“Lisa has been called an ambassador of good, and each edition of her work is seen as a masterpiece, with uplifting words and images that inspire local residents to come together in supporting important causes,” said Harry MacCartney, president of BADC.
“We’re thrilled to have her join us to provide a glimpse into the many ways her efforts have touched our community.”
The BADC annual dinner meeting brings together volunteers of local organizations, elected officials and community leaders in a tribute to community service and to honor the award recipient.
Last year, BADC presented its 2011 Citizen of the Year Award to Bob Lee, whose A Ride for Three Reasons fundraising campaigns have helped fund research and awareness programs for the American Cancer Society, The Les Turner ALS Foundation, and the National Hospice Foundation.
In 2010, Richard and Roxy Pepper were recognized for their volunteer and underwriting support for hospice care in the community. The 2009 Citizen of the Year Award was conveyed to local volunteer and environmentalist Tom Vanderpoel, and in 2008 the organization honored local volunteer and philanthropist Kim Duchossois.
This year’s event features a Showcase of Community Organizations, with the leaders of nearly two dozen local organizations displaying information about their groups and how to become involved.
Those interested in attending should RSVP by Friday, May 4, by emailing BADC at info@The-BADC.org or by calling (847) 382-4357 with attendee names, phone number, and email address. Send a check for $60 per person, made payable to BADC, to: BADC Annual Dinner, P.O. Box 72, Barrington, IL 60011. Your check is your reservation.
BADC annually searches the ranks of community volunteers in the area to find an outstanding but little recognized individual or organization. BADC looks for a worthy recipient for its annual community service award, which is given to a community leader who consistently has been involved in volunteer work and has quietly sought to meet the needs of the Barrington-area communities.
A BADC committee selects the winner from nominees representing — but not limited to — such diverse fields as health care, conservation, preservation, education, youth work, public service, business and transportation.
