Errors foil Cougars in 4-3 loss

Two errors on one play in the seventh inning helped the Peoria Chiefs prevail over the Kane County Cougars 4-3 Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Trailing 3-1 entering the seventh, the Chiefs put their first two men on off reliever Matt Ridings (1-1) with a double and a bunt single. Yaniel Cabezas hit a bouncer to short that Orlando Calixte threw down the right-field line.

Jorge Bonifacio then had some trouble picking up the loose ball as Rafael Lopez and Oliver Zapata scored on the play to tie the game at 3-3. On the next pitch, Marco Hernandez singled to left, scoring Cabezas and putting Peoria up by a run.

Kane County (12-15) carried the initial lead as Justin Trapp reached on an error in the bottom of the first and scored on a single by Lane Adams.

Peoria evened the game in the second against Edwin Carl with 2 singles and a wild pitch to bring home Paul Hoilman. That was the only run surrendered by Carl, who struck out five in 6 innings.
