Rolling Meadows man missing since Wednesday

Rolling Meadows police say they still have no leads on a missing 73-year-old man in a wheelchair who was last seen at his retirement community Wednesday afternoon.

Robert J. Smith went missing from Plum Creek Senior Living Facility, 2801 Algonquin Road, around 4 or 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Smith is described as a white male approximately 6'0" to 6'2" tall, weighing 200 to 245 lbs. with gray hair, brown eyes, and a pockmarked face. Smith was not wearing his glasses when he was last seen.

Smith was last seen leaving the care facility in a wheelchair, which was equipped with an oxygen tank he uses. Police said he had no identification, funds or means of communication, but that he might have been trying to visit an acquaintance in Chicago. Smith does not drive or have access to a vehicle, and he does not have family in the area, police said.

Sgt. Tom Gadomski said police have scanned the area, called local hospitals and taxi companies, but have no leads.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rolling Meadows Police Department at (847) 255-2416.
