Rare plant monitoring program:
Susanne Masi, nationally known plant expert, will present “Plants of Concern” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7 at the Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave. The program is sponsored by the Lake County Audubon Society. Masi will describe an 11-year-old citizen science-based rare plant-monitoring program, which she initiated and coordinated through the Chicago Botanic Garden for Chicago Wilderness. Since its inception, Plants of Concern has trained more than 640 volunteers, partnered with 111 public and private landowners, and monitored 224 endangered, threatened and rare species at 313 sites.
