ECC recognizes career readiness students

Celebrations of the achievements of high school seniors are a part of the graduation event. Students who have earned their National Career Readiness Certification will be recognized at an event at Elgin Community College Visual and Performing Arts Center Thursday, May 3.

Elgin Mayor David Kaptain, Elgin Community College President Dr. Sam and U-46 Superintendent Dr. José M. Torres will be on hand to recognize the achievement of this group for earning platinum, gold, silver or bronze certificates.

The approximately 3,000 members of the Class of 2012 proved that they are leaving Northern Kane, EFE 110, Region work ready by receiving their National Career Readiness Certification. According to the ACT website, “The National Career Readiness Certificate verifies to employers anywhere in the United States that an individual has essential core employability skills in reading, math, and locating information. ACT has researched over 16,000 occupations, and these three skills are highly important to the majority of jobs in the workplace.” This certification is recognized by 80 local employers as well as nationally as part of their hiring process.

Registration, refreshments and network with NCRC Employers will be from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Welcome and congratulatory remarks are from 4:30 to 4:50 p.m. From 4:50 to 5:30 p.m. will be a NCRC Overview with Carol DePue, Northern Kane system director, Pat Hayes, Fabric Images and Eric Smith, Hoffer Plastics.
