Police say teen bit mom and dog — and dog bit back

Authorities say a 19-year-old who was under the influence of alcohol bit both her mother and her 80-pound English bulldog over the weekend in Lake in the Hills. Police showed up at the apartment about 4 a.m. after the girl attacked her mother when asked about her late-night whereabouts, according to police. She then turned on the dog and bit the animal on the back hard enough to draw blood, police said. Full story.

Woman charged in Batavia murder

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in Batavia early Monday morning after a domestic dispute with a 24-year-old Batavia woman, according to police. The victim, who is expected to be identified this morning, was found bleeding profusely in a stairwell of the Batavia Apartments about 1 a.m. Monday, police said. Police said they found Latoya Baines and another woman fighting in a hallway and later charged Baines with murder. Full story.

Man who climbed into Mr. Beef found not guilty

Surveillance video of 21-year-old Hachem Gomez climbing through the drive-through window of Mr. Beef and Pizza in Mount Prospect spread worldwide after his arrest, but seven months later he was found not guilty. A public defender said the Mount Prospect man lacked the capacity to commit and burglary, due to ADHD and schizophrenia. A police officer testified Gomez was cooperative at the restaurant, and his attorney argued that nothing was ever taken. Full story.

Naperville to appoint new police chief

Naperville is set to name Assistant City Manager Bob Marshall as the new chief of police this morning. Marshall and Deputy Chief Gary Bolt were the only two candidates being considered during the interview process, but Bolt pulled his name from consideration after accepting a position at Aurora University. Marshall has been with the city since 1977, when he was sworn in as a police officer. Full story.

Weather

Warm day ahead, though the rain expected to move in this afternoon will make it hard to really enjoy the warmer than normal temperatures. It's 51 degrees right now as we wake up and get going, and temperatures will climb to about 75 degrees by this afternoon. Traffic

Traffic is moving almost as well as can be expected, but people in Bartlett should avoid the intersection of West Lake Street and Naperville Road where a crash is slowing things down. People in Barrington should avoid resurfacing on Ela Road between Lake Cook and Cuba roads through May. It will dip down to one lane of traffic during the daytime. Full story.

Rose stops by Bulls practice before Game 2

Derrick Rose made a stop at the Berto Center during yesterday's practice and is expected to be at tonight's game 2 as C.J. Watson fills in at the point. “What do you say to the guy?” Kyle Korver said. “He's handling it well, but it's a tough thing. He seemed like he was doing pretty well.” A date has not been set Rose's surgery to repair his torn ACL. Full story.

Cubs lose to Phillies despite late game heroics

Cubs starter Chris Volsted gave up four runs in the first before the Cubs came back and scored four of their own in the 8th, But, the bullpen fell apart once again, giving up two late-inning runs to drop the game to the Phillies by a final of 6-4. Full story.
