Water Street Studios welcomes alternative storytelling

Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St., Batavia, will host “Hint of It” by Core Project Chicago, a movement-based interdisciplinary arts collective pushing the boundaries of storytelling, at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4.

“Hint of It” is a multimedia performance exploring of the moments of isolation and connection that occur amid our everyday lives. The piece combines the collaborative efforts of CPC artists and includes original movement, text and media. Ever evolving, “Hint of It” bends to suit its cast, performance environment and audience through fluid transition, athletic choreography, improvisational movement and sound.

Preceding the performance will be two free workshops hosted by CPC artists.

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, there will be a media workshop where junior and high school students will be led in working with video and audio arts, editing, storytelling, use of new media within performance. Then, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3, there will be a movement workshop where elementary school students will work with CPC dancers to explore dance and movement. Each class will be limited to a maximum of 20 students and reservations are required.

“These workshops will lead up to a performance of a piece by the students prior to the CPC performance on May 4,” said CPC’s artistic director Erin Rehberg. “The teachers will be working with Water Street Studio’s current show theme using traditional dance techniques, as well as playful improvisational movement games to create a short performance work.”

CPC teachers are dynamic, insightful and dedicated to dance education and its ability to cultivate healthy bodies and minds.
