Volunteers needed at Clearbrook Jelly Belly Days
Clearbrook, the Chicago area’s leading provider of innovative programs, services and support for people with disabilities, is asking individuals and groups to take time to “sweeten” the lives of others in mid-May.
From 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. May 18 and 19, during Clearbrook’s Jelly Belly Days. Residents, professionals and members of community organizations can join hundreds of other volunteers who are donating their time and energy to make a difference in the lives of thousands of adults and children with special needs.
In its 23rd year, Clearbrook’s Jelly Belly Days motivates individuals to lend a helping hand, as part of a fun day outside with friends, family, and colleagues.
Janis Edelheit, Jelly Belly Days coordinator for Clearbrook, says, “We hear about so much bad in the world that it wears at our faith in humanity. Working the Jelly Belly Days restores that faith. You get to see, firsthand, the good in people.”
It is this appreciation for what is good in the world that has families and major corporations like The Gap and AT&T collecting donations outside of local Jewel grocery stores and on street corners for hours at a time. As state funding gets tighter and tighter, small donations can make all the difference in the lives of individuals with special needs.
The more volunteers there are, the bigger the difference that can be made. If you can’t attend but want to help, you can bring a donation can and candy to work; solicit donations from friends, family and co-workers; make a $5 donation by texting CLRBRK to 20222 or make a direct donation (or ask your employer about their matching gift program).
