Pitching matchups: The Cubs’ Jeff Samardzija (2-1) vs. Bronson Arroyo (1-0) Tuesday at 6:10 p.m.; Paul Maholm (2-2) vs. Homer Bailey (1-2) Wednesday at 6:10 p.m.; Ryan Dempster (0-1) vs. Mike Leake (0-3) Thursday at 11:35 a.m.

At a glance: The Reds (11-11) were off Monday. The trail the first-place Cardinals by 3 games in the NL Central. Former Cubs setup man Sean Marshall has taken over as Reds closer, and he’s 5-for-6 in save chances. Jay Bruce leads the Reds in most of the key offensive stats. The Reds are 10th in the NL in runs scored, while the Cubs are 11th. The Cubs entered Monday last in the NL in homers (8). Cincinnati pitchers were eighth in ERA (3.53) while the Cubs were 11th (4.10). The Reds took two of three from the Cubs at Wrigley Field, April 20-22.
