Cougars drop series to Great Lakes

MIDLAND, Mich. — Erupting for six runs in the middle three innings, the Great Lakes Loons captured the series with a 6-1 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Monday afternoon at Dow Diamond.

Aaron Brooks (2-3) started the day in good shape for the Cougars (11-14) as he blanked the Loons (13-12) through the first three innings. In the fourth, however, Brooks uncorked a two-run double with two outs to Kevin Taylor which gave the Loons a 2-1 advantage.

Great Lakes added three more to chase Brooks from the contest in the fifth inning. Brooks surrendered 10 hits in his five innings. Joe Winker picked up an RBI single and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Pratt Maynard while Devin Shines also singled home a run. Scott Schebler finished the scoring by tripling in Taylor during the sixth inning against Andrew Stueve.

Justin Trapp was responsible for the only Kane County run as doubled to the gap in right-center, bringing home Tim Ferguson in the third, giving the Cougars a brief lead. Arismendy Ozoria (3-0) worked five innings while coughing up just three hits. Jose Dominguez closed the contest with four scoreless stanzas and six strikeouts.

The Cougars return home on Wednesday night to battle the Peoria Chiefs (Cubs affiliate) at 6 p.m. . Tickets are available by calling the Cougars’ box office at (630) 232-8811 or by visiting www.kccougars.com.
