So long, to great friend, citizen

Today the village of Lake Zurich said goodbye to one of their leading citizens and I said goodbye to a dear friend. But while he was here he showed love and respect to all who knew him.

In the 19 years I knew him, I never heard him have a harsh word to say about anyone, and he treated everyone with dignity. He was a wonderful father to his two daughters and a devoted husband to his late wife.

He tried to keep active in programs that helped the less fortunate and the history of our village. He was never selfish and would have given the shirt off his back if you asked him.

He was always cheerful and always found something to smile about no matter how much pain or sorrow he was in. Just by knowing him through the years, I feel I have become a better person.

He was a great example to follow. I wish I could tell him now what a great influence he had on my life. If we all could practice just one half of this man’s beliefs and actions, the world would be a better place to live.

There is a big hole in my heart now that he has gone, but he will always be remembered by those of us who knew and loved him.

Goodbye, dear friend.
