Wheeling resident, umpire Pluda loses cancer battle
Dave Pluda, a Wheeling resident who umpired area high school and American Legion baseball games for more than 20 years, died Friday afternoon after battling cancer for nearly a year.
The 59-year-old Pluda was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer last July and also had foot infections which required three surgeries. He is survived by his wife Sandie and sons Aaron and Josh.
