Orth, Carmel win in ESCC

Ashley Orth scored 3 goals and assisted on another, leading Carmel Catholic’s girls soccer team to a 6-2 win over visiting Joliet Catholic in an East Suburban Catholic Conference match Wednesday.

Sarah McHugh, Shannon Jung and Claire Ogrinc had the Corsairs’ other goals. Caitlin Murphy, Bri Carlson and Maggie Karich also had assists.

Grayslake North 4, Johnsburg 1: Freshman Sam Villwock scored twice and added an assist, and senior Katie McGrath had a goal and 3 assists, as the Knights won the Fox Valley Fox Division game.

Katie Lahera opened the scoring for Grayslake North (10-5-1), heading home a McGrath pass just three minutes into the match.

Johnsburg pulled even, but Villwock scored on a header off another McGrath cross with three minutes left before intermission to give the Knights the lead for good.

“The second half was much better for us, on both sides of the ball,” Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “We tightened up defensively and gave Johnsburg less space to play, which allowed us to go on the attack more frequently and effectively.”
