Gurnee teen charged in residential burglary
Gurnee police credited calls from observant residents with leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old Gurnee man on burglary charges.
Brandon Hurley, who recently moved to Illinois from Kentucky, was wearing a black ski mask and black gloves near an open garage door when he was spotted by residents in Baywater Circle about 9 p.m. Friday, Cmdr. Jay Patrick said.
Residents phoned 9-1-1, and officers raced to the scene, Patrick said. Responding officers discovered a suspicious vehicle in the area, made a traffic stop and soon determined the person driving the car was the person seen by the witnesses, he said,
As the man was questioned, officers discovered a large number of electronic components inside the vehicle along with other items, Patrick said.
After reviewing the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Hurley was charged with two counts of burglary, then released from Lake County jail after posting the required 10 percent of a $30,000 bond.
Patrick said Hurley is due back in court in May.
“This case was another great example of residents partnering with their police department,” Police Chief Kevin Woodside said.
