Children’s museum thanks its volunteers

Great work and great change are achieved each and every day by the numerous nonprofit organizations that serve our community. Much of this would not be possible without the aid and dedication of volunteers. DuPage Children’s Museum is one such organization.

National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, is a special time of the year to highlight and publicly thank all the wonderful volunteers who contribute to the Museum’s success.

In the past year, nearly 800 museum volunteers invested more than 21,000 hours to provide high-quality early learning experiences. Whether facilitating the museum experience with visitors or helping us extend our outreach efforts to children and families that face physical or economic barriers to attendance, volunteers make our mission a reality.

Museum volunteers have many different faces and wear many different hats. Washington Jr. High students participate in multiple collaborative volunteer programs to develop their talents as community contributors. Corporate and community groups help to plant the museum’s gardens, facilitate special events like Bubble Bash, a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration, and donate their time and talent in other ways. Especially in the summer, hundreds of teens volunteer and gain valuable work experience. They assist staff and participate in such activities as greeting visitors, helping in the offices and resetting exhibits.

This year museum will participate in today’s DuPage County Human Race 5K Run/2 Mile Walk. The event brings the community together in support of charities serving DuPage County. Sponsored by Giving DuPage, a volunteer center, the event celebrates the last day of Volunteer Week and the contributions volunteers make to our community.
