Fundraiser to benefit substance abuse programs

Demand for substance abuse treatment — particularly for heroin addicts — is on the rise in the suburbs.

Eight years ago, 15 percent of the men in Serenity House’s extended residential program were heroin addicts. Now more than 54 percent of them are. And there’s a waiting list to get in.

That’s why the staff from Serenity House Counseling Services in Addison said this year’s annual gala is so important.

Tonight, Serenity House will host a gala at Empress Banquets, 200 East Lake St., Addison, with dinner, dancing and a silent auction to raise money for its programs. The keynote speaker will be Republican congressman and Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam of Wheaton.

Cost is $100 per person, and all proceeds go toward supporting treatment programs and providing safe, sober and affordable transitional housing for people recovering from substance abuse and chemical dependence.
