Neuqua wins in Ohio
Neuqua Valley defeated defending Kentucky state champion Allen County-Scottsville 3-0 on Friday night in Ashland Ohio, capping a 3-0 first day for the Wildcats at the Wendy’s Spring Classic in Ashland, Ohio. Jamie O’Brien (8-4) struck out four and tripled in a run in Neuqua’s three-run fifth inning. Kelsey Dominguez singled in O’Brien. Earlier, Neuqua (13-6) beat James Garfield (Ohio) 16-0 in five innings. Mac Spittal (4-2) struck out 10, O’Brien was 4-for-4 with 3 triples, 4 runs scored and 5 RBI and Brooke Meyer hit a three-run inside-the-park home run. Neuqua then beat Boardman 6-0 behind a two-hit, eight-strikeout O’Brien gem. Katie Cruse was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and Megan Hannigan 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored in that game.
Lake Park 10, Hillsdale (Ohio ) 7:
Marilyn Perry went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in, part of a 19-hit Lake Park attack, at the Wendy’s Spring Classic. Shannon Fritsche went 3-for-4 and scored 3 runs and Stephanie Starr went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI for Lake Park (11-7).
Wheaton North 8, Glenbard East 7:
Libbie Casey hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth for the Falcons (3-13, 1-2 DVC). Wheaton North twice rallied from two-run deficits, the second time on Kat Meyer’s two-run single in the sixth. Meyer was 3-for-3.
Naperville Central 3, WW South 2
Kelsey Gonzalez doubled in Nicole Kappelman with two outs in the top of the seventh, giving No. 11 Naperville Central its 10th straight win. Kappelman beat out an infield single with one out, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Gonzalez’s double. Gonzalez was 2-for-4 for Naperville Central (12-3, 3-0 DuPage Valley Conference), singling in Kappelman in the first inning, and was robbed of a homer by Tigers left fielder Rayanna Becker. Winning pitcher Keegan Hayes (6-2) struck out 12, allowing just 3 hits — one of them a Sammy Granger two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Granger struck out nine. Hayes had 2 hits, including a double, and scored on Juliet Tassi’s RBI single in the fourth to tie it 2-2.
Glenbard North 10, West Aurora 0:
Lilly Fecho fired a one-hitter, striking out nine, for the top-ranked Panthers’ third conference shutout this week. Fecho also went 3-for-4 and drove in 4 runs and Bri Harn was 2-for-3 with a walk and 3 runs scored for Glenbard North (16-0, 3-0 DVC).
Waubonsie Valley 4, Plainfield South 3:
Katie Benson reached on an error with one out in the bottom of the ninth and scored on Shannon Hohman’s deep fly to right-center for the 16th-ranked Warriors (13-4). Winning pitcher Hohman (10-2) was 2-for-4 with the game-winner and Mel Koulos 2-for-5 with a double.
Immaculate Conception 16, Aurora Christian 2:
Katelyn Conenna was 2-for-3 with a homer and 5 RBI, Jocelyn Sanchez 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Jenn Clementi 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI and the Knights (15-4, 9-0 Suburban Christian Conference Gold) stretched their winning streak to 14 in a row. Gabby Davis was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
St. Francis 15, St. Edward 1:
Alyssa Fernandez drove in 5 runs for the Spartans (15-2, 7-1 Suburban Christian Conference Blue).
Wheaton Academy 9, Walther Lutheran 5:
Marissa Gagliano had 2 singles, a double and 2 runs scored and Bridget Koehler had 3 hits, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored for the Warriors (5-10, 3-5 Suburban Christian Conference Gold). Emily Anderson added 3 hits, 2 RBI and a run scored.
Downers Grove South 8, Addison Trail 0:
Aleisha Bozek (5-5) tossed a one-hitter for the Mustangs (10-7, 2-1 West Suburban Gold).
