Rosary to stage Dr. Seuss classics

Submitted by Rosary High School

The Rosary High School Drama Club will present its spring play, “The Magic of Dr. Seuss,” featuring “The Lorax” and “Seussical Jr.”

Long before saving the earth became a global concern, Dr. Seuss, speaking through his character the Lorax, warned against mindless progress and the danger it posed to the earth’s natural beauty.

This classic story is just as important today as when it was originally published 40 years ago, and the Rosary actors will bring it to life onstage.

Combining characters and plots from more than 15 Dr. Seuss stories, “Seussical Jr.” is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza. The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge — not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.

Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes “his kind and his powerful heart.”

Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant in a story that makes you laugh and cry.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22, in the McEnroe Auditorium at Rosary High School, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.

General admission seating is $5 and can be purchased in advance by calling (630) 896-0831, ext. 32; in person at Rosary High School during regular school hours; or online at www.RosaryHS.com, click on the “Magic of Dr. Seuss” link.
