Krzysko keeps slugging away for Barrington
Barrington junior slugger Loren Krzysko belted her 21st career home run as the Fillies blanked visiting Schaumburg 6-0.
Krzysko is 1 homer shy of Barrington’s school record set by Ashley Berggren.
Coincidentally, Berggren was at her alma mater on Wednesday coaching first base for Schaumburg, where she is the girls basketball head coach.
Krzysko’s blast drove in 3 runs in the Fillies’ 4-run fifth inning.
Morgan Olszewski also belted a solo homer for Barrington (14-3, 4-1) while Kelsey Kazmier and Savonnah Osmanski had RBI singles.
Ally McLaughlin went 2-for-3 for the Fillies and teammare Raegan Fingerman doubled.
Junior Cassidy Kraimer (7-2) threw a 2-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Courtney Plackner went 2-for-3 for Schaumburg (8-7 2-3) while Rene Kakareka (2-3) took the loss.
Wheeling 6, Buffalo Grove 5: Wheeling notched its first win in the MSL East by scoring 3 runs in sixth and seventh innings to rally from a 4-0 deficit.
Sophomore Katie Quagliano (3-7) threw an 8-hitter for the visiting Wildcats (3-9, 1-4).
“This was good for the girls,” said Wheeling coach Mike Caringella. “They deserved it. We’ve lost a lot of close games so it was nice to get one to go our way.”
Leading the Wildcats’ offense were Jackie Resnick (double), Sara Kern (double), Ashley Hafertepe (2-for-3, double) and Nikki Mikosz (2-for-4, double).
Freshman pitcher Julia Camardo (3-7) went 2-for-3 with a double and struck out four for BG (5-12, 1-4).
Freshman Caitlin Catino (2-for-3, walk) and junior Erin Barton (2-for-4) were other top hitters for the Bison.
Rolling Meadows 2, Prospect 0: Junior Sara Brunlieb (9-4) struck out 13 and threw a 1-hitter for Meadows (11-5, 3-2) at Prospect (4-13, 1-4) in the MSL East.
Knights pitcher Hanna Lythberg (3-9) broke up the no-hitter with a single in the seventh inning.
Meadows took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Natalie Cannizzo led off with a walk and went to second on Josie Suchecki’s groundout. Cannizzo scored when Sam Anderson reached on an infield error.
The Mustangs added an insurance run in the seventh when Lane Winkler reached on an infield error. She advanced to second on Sarah Caprio’s groundout to first and scored on an RBI single down the right field line by Chloe Prodanovic.
Brunlieb also had a hit for the Mustangs.
“Hanna Lythberg (2 hits, 2 walks, 8 strikeouts) turned in another solid performance for us on the mound,” said Knights coach Jim Adair . “We haven’t been hitting, but it’s not for a lack of trying. We’re waiting to get hot at the plate, and pressing too hard right now, but we believe we’ll get there.”
Elk Grove 10, Hersey 0 (6 inn.): Right fielder Andrea Starr (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 3 runs), catcher Devan Parkison (2-for-4, double, 3 runs) and center fielder Elisa Payne (3-for-4, double 2 RBI) led the offense for the host Grens (13-3, 4-1), which received a 4-hitter from Dani Goranson (9-3), who struck out nine and walked none against Hersey (7-8, 1-4).
Palatine 9, Hoffman Estates 2: Kaileigh Moertl (home run, 2 RBI), Lauren Logan (3-for-4), Courtney English (2-for-4), Megan Hedstrom (double) and Jules Udoni (double) led the offense for visiting Palatine (11-7, 4-1), which is 1 game out of first place in the MSL West.
Hedstrom (8-5) threw a 3-hitter for the win, striking out seven.
Freshman Charlotte Allan (3-8) struck out four for Hoffman Estates (3-9-1, 1-4).
Carmel 12, St. Viator 3: Michelle Presslak (double), Alex Flasch (3-for-4, 2 RBI, double, 1 run) and Gina Mastrodomenico (2-for-3, double , 2 runs) led the offense for visiting St. Viator (7-10, 0-4) in the ESCC.
