Fashion show to fund healing garden at Provena
The Provena St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary’s fashion show this year is one full of milestones. The hospital is in its 110th year, this is the 65th fashion show and the 40th year it has been run by the auxiliary in its current form.
The day’s festivities include several raffles, lunch and the show — featuring fashions from local stores.
Ann Gerardo, director of fundraising for the auxiliary, said people will have time to shop the Petals and Presents boutique and buy raffle tickets once the doors open at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Stonegate Banquet Center, 2401 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates. Lunch will be served at noon and followed by the show.
Gerardo said in past years the fundraiser has been able to generate $60,000 but she hesitated to name a goal amount this year because of the difficult fundraising environment in the down economy. Proceeds will go toward a new healing garden at the Elgin hospital.
“A healing garden is nice for the patient, the visitor and even hospital employees,” Gerardo said. “Part of the healing process is healing your body along with your mind.”
Barbara Fallon, interim regional director of marketing and public relations at Provena, said there is already a small healing garden at the hospital. The one planned by the auxiliary will go at the front entrance and be a complete landscaping makeover.
“It’s a place for people to go and have some solace and be alone with nature and appreciate the solitude,” Fallon said.
Raffle prizes for the Grand Raffle include $500 in cash, a family portrait, Gucci sunglasses, a Pandora bracelet and a Vera Bradley travel set.
Tickets are still available for the event and cost $55. Visit provena.org/saintjoseph/fashionshow2012 or call (847) 888-3165 to reserve a seat.
