UK prosecutors consider charges over phone hacking

LONDON — Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service says it is considering criminal charges in four cases related to tabloid phone hacking and other alleged misconduct by reporters.

The organization said Wednesday that police had referred four cases to prosecutors, including allegations that a reporter paid a police officer for information and that another attempted to pervert the course of justice.

In a statement, the service said it would not disclose the identities of those involved, or give any estimate on when it might reach any decisions in the cases.
