Valles delivers for Maine West
Maine West’s softball team remained undefeated in the Central Suburban North as junior Ariel Valles fired a 5-hitter and shutout visiting Glenbrook North 2-0 on Tuesday in Des Plaines.
Valles (8-4) struck out six and also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run.
Maine West West (12-7, 3-0) scored once in third and sixth innings.
Katie Fitzgerald (1-for-3, 1 run), Hanna Udischas (1-3, double) and Renee Pond (1-for-3, RBI) were the top offensive players for the Warriors.
“It was a great pitching effort from Ariel and a great defensive effort,” said Maine West first-year coach Amy Gonzales. “We have been having timely hitting and been able to score runs when needed. It was another great team effort.”
Christian Liberty 9, Luther North 7: Beth Cunningham belted a home run and Megan Krizanovic added 2 doubles for Christian Liberty.
Sophomore Megan Sullivan was the winning pitcher for the host Chargers, who scored 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 9-7 lead.
