Aurora man trapped on cruise ship near Antarctic Peninsula
An Aurora businessman and a Batavia resident are both trapped onboard a cruise ship that has broken down near the Antarctic Peninsula, media outlets are reporting.
Bob Bonifas, 74, and Janis Christiansen, of Batavia, are two of 16 American passengers docked at a port at the South Georgia Island waiting for a second cruise ship to pick them up, WGN-TV is reporting.
Bonifas said the ships 73 passengers are not in danger, the ship has plenty of food and water, and are simply waiting for a new ship to come and pick them up Wednesday.
Bonifas told WGN-TV the ship had engine trouble last Tuesday, and they have been stranded for eight days.
