4-year-old back home after ATV accident

A 4-year-old Kane County boy who was critically injured in an ATV accident over the weekend is recuperating at home, a neighbor of the family said.

Authorities said the unidentified toddler climbed on top of the ATV in the 11N400 block of Muirhead Road and attempted to drive the machine at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The ATV somehow flipped on top of him, Kane County Lt. Patrick Gengler said.

The boy was transferred unconscious to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and was then airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Neighbor Martin Yohanan said the boy was at home Tuesday and had been kept in hospital as a precaution. Yohanan did not know the extent of the boy’s injuries.

Gengler, who could not confirm that the boy had been released from hospital, said the accident remains under investigation but no criminal charges are expected.
