St. Gilbert middle school students to perform ‘Seussical Jr.’
Middle school students at Saint Gilbert Catholic School in Grayslake are polishing their acting skills to present “Seussical Jr.” on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21.
The performances are set for at 7 p.m., at the Mundelein Seminary Theater. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for kids, and children ages 2 and under are free. Reserve now at www.stgilbertschool.org or (847) 223-8600.
“Seussical Jr.” is a magical, musical show that brings to life many of Dr. Seuss’ beloved characters, such as Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie LaBird and that imaginative thinking boy — JoJo.
It is a story of friendship, family, and community. “A sure hit for everyone in the family to enjoy,” said director Jeanna Daebelliehn. “The cast and crew are all working hard to bring this production to life. The energetic songs, colorful sets, and colorful costumes will make you want to join in the fun.”
For some of the students, this will be their last show at St. Gilbert’s because they will be graduating at the end of this school year.
Eighth-grader Abbey Schlicksup, who plays Gertrude McFuzz, said “It’s a really fun show to end on. Everyone is living up to their roles, and it is going to be a great show.”
Kyle Fisher, who plays Horton the Elephant and also is an eighth-grader, says “I really like playing the character Horton the Elephant because he teaches and is taught a lot of life lessons.”
The Mundelein Seminary Theater is on the University of St. Mary of the Lake campus, at 1000 East Maple Ave., Mundelein. Any tickets not sold in advance will be available for purchase at the door.
Proceeds from the production will go to support St. Gilbert, a Catholic school accredited by the Archdiocese of Chicago, serving children in preschool through eighth grade. For information about the school or the performance, call (847) 223-8600.
