'Iron Lady,' folk series new to DVD

“The Iron Lady”

Meryl Streep won the best actress Academy Award for her terrific portrayal of Britain's Margaret Thatcher. Streep — with the assistance of prosthetics, makeup and wardrobe — thoroughly inhabits Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.”

Many people remember the former prime minister as a conservative politician who often clashed with Parliament and members of her own party. This film shows her rise to power. She was called out-of-touch, but had to deal with strikes and protests, an assassination attempt, the changing times and war. She could have an abrasive manner, but this film also reviews Thatcher's loving relationship with her husband Denis, her passion for politics and her life-long determination.
