Budget solution: More speeding tickets

In Jan. and Feb., I heard many legislative candidates tell how the legislature can reduce the state government’s budget deficit. I thought of an idea that none of the candidates mentioned.

Whenever I drive on I-90, I-94, and I-294, I see signs that state, “Speed Limit 55,” so I ensure that I drive between 55 and 60 miles per hour. About 90 percent of the drivers I see drive at least 65 mph, but I see police officers give speeding tickets about once every five or six months.

I thought of three reasons why some people speed. Some drivers can’t read the signs. Some drivers enjoy disobeying laws. Some drivers enjoy spending money on gas, since the higher speeds cause their cars to get fewer miles per gallon.

If the state police officers start giving speeds tickets to as many speeders as possible, the Illinois government will receive more money, eliminating most of the state budget deficit.

I hope that the police will ticket as many lawbreakers as possible.
