Two men arrested in ‘clean sweep’ in Naperville
Two men face drug-related charges after Naperville police conducted what they called a “clean sweep” of the area around Testa Drive, Encina Drive and Jefferson Avenue, authorities said Friday.
Sgt. Gregg Bell said the operation began around 1 p.m. Wednesday in response to requests from residents and a 124 percent jump in public safety service calls in the area since last year.
Bell said more than 30 members of the department, using 19 different vehicles, descended on the neighborhood to enforce a zero tolerance plan.
Police stopped more than 20 vehicles in the target area resulting in everything from arrests to written warnings, he said. Officers also served existing arrest warrants for people living in the area.
A search warrant was executed on the 100 block of Testa Drive for a suspected cannabis growing operation, police said, in which officers confiscated more than a pound of suspected cannabis, 46 cannabis plants and paraphernalia. One occupant of the residence was arrested.
Police also seized one vehicle during the sweep when it was discovered the driver had a suspended license because of a DUI arrest and lack of insurance.
Among those arrested in the sweep was Tyrone Townsend, 33, of the 120 block of Testa Drive, who was charged with possession of cannabis, production of cannabis, endangering the life or health of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Also arrested was Anthony Depasquale, 17, of the 300 block of 6th Street in St. Charles, who was charged with possession with intent to deliver 10 to 30 grams of cannabis.
