Marijuana growing found at Indiana home where 2 killed
VALPARAISO, Ind. — Police say investigators found a marijuana-growing operation inside a northwestern Indiana home where two people were fatally shot.
The Porter County officers found at least 30 potted marijuana plants underneath heat lamps at the house just outside Valparaiso after the shooting early Saturday.
The Times of Munster reports that 19-year-old Julius Garza of Hammond gave brief responses to a judge during his initial hearing Wednesday on murder charges for the deaths. The judge entered not guilty pleas on his behalf.
Court documents say Garza told detectives he was at 40-year-old Jeffery Trinka’s house to “party” and hid in a bedroom after someone came to the door. Garza said he heard gunshots and came out to find Trinka and 31-year-old Jennifer Guinn of Hammond both wounded.
