Round Lake Exchange Club names April's Hometown Hero

Round Lake Area Exchange Club has named a soldier as its Hometown Hero recipient for April.

U.S. Army Specialist Devin McAdams, a Wauconda resident and 2009 graduate of Warren Township High School in Gurnee, is the latest recipient of the recognition.

McAdams was registered for this honor by his mother, Nada Lunsford, of Spring Grove. He is currently deployed in Kuwait working as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

Lunsford said she's eager for her son's scheduled return to the United States in late fall. She told Hometown Hero Chairman Sherry Ridge why she nominated her son.

“Devin joined to serve his country, fight for something bigger than himself and the sense of accomplishment,” Lunsford said.

McAdams will receive a “Hanging with the Heroes” care package filled with beef jerky, brownies, snacks and DVD movies. All packages are delivered with a personalized “Hanging with the Heroes” T-shirt donated by a Hainesville business and letters from Round Lake Area Unit District 116 students.

The sponsor of the April award is Mano a Mano Family Resource Center.

Exchange Club members will present a Hometown Hero plaque to McAdams' family at a meeting 7:30 a.m. April 25. The meeting, open to the public, will be at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach.

All military personnel serving overseas or in the United States from the Round Lake towns, Hainesville, Fox Lake or Ingleside qualify for the program. Nominations are accepted at rlaexchange.org/hero.
